Adams Peak (also known as Sri Pada) is a sacred place to people of several religions in Sri Lanka!
Beginning on the first full moon (Poya Day) in December, many people make a pilgrimage to the top of the mountain - about 7,360 feet! - usually leaving late at night so that they can be at the top of the mountain to see the sun rise.
It is a long and strenuous climb and your legs will be hurting during and after your journey down, but it is worth the effort to experience this once in your lifetime.
There are a couple different routes but the most popular is on the Hatton side. It is recommended to start your climb a little before 3AM (earlier if you plan on climbing at a more leisurely pace) so that you can reach the top before sun rise. It is a remarkable view as the sun illuminates the sky and earth below. It can get cool on top - so bring extra clothes to keep you warm!

Sri Lanka Travel - Colombo
Columbo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka! Over 2 million people live in this vibrant city. While sometimes busy and hectic, visitors to this city can witness many of Colombo's treasures. The Fort area is the business center of the country and is home to the World Trade Center, as well as other modern buildings. A stroll along Galle Face Green allows a fantastic view of the Indian Ocean, and if timed right, a spectacular sunset. Cinammon Gardens is home to many of the city's most luxurious homes. The Pettah area is a bazaar where one can watch people bargain for just about anything.
There are several interesting museums and beautiful parks to view, as well as numerous noteworthy churches, temples and mosques. Tasty Sri Lankan food can be found throughout the city, with major hotels offering exquisite international cuisine. As in other areas of Sri Lanka, you will find the Sri Lankan people extremely friendly to tourists. Plan on spending at least a few days here to tour the city before or after exploring other areas of Sri Lanka.
If you are looking for a nightclub in Colombo, your best bet is to go to one of the upscale hotels that have their own nightclubs or go to H20 - a popular high-energy club! Most clubs will charge an entrance fee - make sure you know what cover charge there may be before you enter. While you won't have problems at the major hotel clubs or H2O, some other clubs may have outrageous entrance fees which you will not know about until you want to leave.
If you wish to try your luck at gambling, Colombo has several casinos and, if you like to sing, you can visit one of several karaoke clubs.
There are several cinemas in Colombo offering recently released English and other language movies - check daily newspapers for show times.
For up-to-date happenings, read one of the several local publications listing entertainment options which you can pick-up once you arrive in Sri Lanka.
Have fun and enjoy the various forms of entertainment Colombo has to offer you!
There are many places to find bargains in Colombo! Modern shopping malls and specialty stores carry high quality goods at very affordable prices. If you are looking for an even greater bargain, without the surroundings, try your bargaining with the many street vendors and outdoor markets (such as in the Pettah area and across from the Fort Railway Station).
Products that are worth buying in Sri Lanka include world famous Ceylon tea, clothing (many designer clothes are manufactured in Sri Lanka and you can buy them here for a fraction of the cost elsewhere) and jewelry (including the Sri Lankan blue saphire).
Quality is generally assured at the higher end stores, if purchasing at other locations, use your judgment when buying expensive items.
